"Waltz No. 2" from Jazz Suite No. 2 by Shostakovich; Arr. for Strings by Paul Lavendar
Waltz No. 2 from Jazz Suite No. 2 by Dimitri Shostakovich is a favorite and will be a hit for your string orchestra. This delightful arrangement by Paul Lavendar features a lovely viola solo and violin duet at the beginning, cello solo near the end, and includes parts for piano or celesta and percussion. Originally written for full symphonic orchestra and saxaphones, this incorporates other instruments and features all of the stringed instruments beautifully. Includes catchy sections of pizzicato and gorgeous, soaring melodies. The melody at the end is pretty tricky for divisi cello (way up in thumb position) so you'll want to have a pretty strong cello section.
String Orchestra never sounded so great! You may not peg it as jazz, but it is definitely Shostakovich! Perfect for your intermediate to advanced string orchestra (Levels 3-4).
Jazz Suite No. 2 is popular among classical musicians, but you may also recognize this tune from Eyes Wide Shut or Batman v Superman.
Includes a score and set of parts.
