Product Description

Performed by cellist Tsuyoshi Tsutsumi, this Suzuki Cello CD contains recordings of the pieces in Volumes 3 & 4 of the Suzuki Cello School.

Volume 3 is filled with lots of my all-time favorites. Though most of the pieces are stolen from other instruments, there are a couple written just for the cello! You'll get a lot of third and fourth position practice, but there are even sections where you'll get to go up as high as seventh position! It's a great book for learning shifting, vibrato, and more advanced bowing technique. You may switch up the order that you learn these pieces in to help you not get too bogged down at the beginning. Lots of tricky things in this book. It is also the longest book in the Suzuki Cello Repertoire. If you haven't already, you'll definitely want to be teaching your student their two octave scales from Scale Trail Challenge for the Young Cellist!

Here are the pieces you'll hear in Volume 3:

  • Berceuse, Wiegenlied or Lullaby, Op. 98, No. 2 (F. Schubert)
  • Tonalization: The Moon over the Ruined Castle (R. Taki)
  • Gavotte (J. B. Lully)
  • Minuet from Sei Quintetti for Archi No. 11, Op. 11, No. 5 in E Major (L. Boccherini)
  • Tonalization: The Moon over the Ruined Castle (R. Taki)
  • Scherzo (C. Webster)
  • Minuet in G, Wo0 10, No. 7 for Piano (L. van Beethoven)
  • Gavotte in C Minor, Gavotte en Rondeau from Suite in G Minor for Klavier, BWV 822 (J. S. Bach)
  • Minuet No. 3, BWV Anh. II 114/Anh. III 183/Anh. II, 115 (J. S. Bach)
  • Humoresque, Op. 101, No. 7 for Piano (A. Dvorák)
  • La Cinquantaine (Gabriel-Marie)
  • Allegro Moderato from Sonata I in G, BWV 1027 for Viola da Gamba (J. S. Bach)

Volume 4 is much shorter, but has plenty of great music for your young student. You'll really get a feel for some the Baroque, Classical and Romantic repertoire. All but one is written for the cello, but Chanson Triste may as well have been a cello original. It's BEAUTIFUL! For sure by the time you start this level, you'll want to be well into Mooney's Position Pieces Book 2. The last piece is in TENOR CLEF!

Here's the list of the tracks in Volume 4:

  • Sonata in C Major, Op. 40, No. 1 (Allegro, Rondo grazioso) (J. B. Bréval)
  • Adagio and Allegro from the Sonata in E minor, Op. 1, No. 2 (B. Marcello)
  • Minuets from the Suite in G Major, BWV 1007 (J. S. Bach)
  • Tonalization
  • Chanson Triste, Op. 40, No. 2 for Piano (P. I. Tchaikovsky).
