Position Pieces for Cello, Book 2 by Rick Mooney
This book is a fantastic way to introduce upper positions to your advancing young cellist. I've it used for over fifteen years to teach my students how to shift in and out of positions. It covers lower fifth position all the way through upper seventh position. The student will learn theory and hand placement with a some written theory "Geography Quiz" and "Names and Numbers." In each position and pattern section, there are clever and very entertaining duets that the student can practice at home and then perform with the teacher at lessons. Complete with pictures of each position pattern and fingerings where needed. This book has also been incredibly helpful for my students as they are learning the tenor clef. There are even some double-stops in position that will give your students a great challenge! You and your student will absolutely love these pieces. Rick Mooney really is a genius at making technique fun! Even the teachers part is more exciting than your typical technique duet book!
